“I generally needed to go to the city, my whole daily life,” claims interior designer Caitlin Rowley, who grew up in Fenton. As a student at Detroit’s College or university for Imaginative Reports, Rowley commuted from her hometown for a pair of decades, in advance of fulfilling her city dream and transferring to Detroit’s Boston-Edison neighborhood, then to a number of other places in Detroit and Royal Oak. Now she’s happily dwelling in Midtown Detroit with her cat, Ozzy, in the 15-unit Keyes creating, which characteristics 4 flooring of restored apartments, replete with unique window casings and trim, plaster partitions, previous components, antiquated radiators, historic doorways and doorknobs, and other classic touches.
The pièce de résistance in Rowley’s residence is her eclectic residing room gallery wall, which has a window between two wall-artwork collections. It options works by artists near and significantly, amid an arrangement of accents and furnishings which is equally artistic and inviting. That is no shock, as Rowley is an inside designer at Ellwood Interiors in Birmingham.
The art lover claims the apartment’s layout goes with her model. “I blend a large amount of various eras of furnishings and that provides it this exceptional appeal, and most of my things is neutral, so the walls of artwork give the place the colour.” She’s been accumulating artwork in the way of originals and prints for about 10 decades. “I get my artwork as gifts, from touring, or from getting an artist on social media,” she claims. “My home is a story — a timeline — of me.”

Surfers and whales and snakes, oh my!
“My print of surfers, by Leah Reena Goren (8), came from a print shop in California. The whales (9) are Northwest art and have been procured at the Seattle Art Museum. A snake print by Colour Poems (10) was a reward from a good friend I have a snake tattoo.”

Pop culture
“I have a [copy of a] print by Keith Haring (13). He is just one of my favourite artists from that time period of time, so it was a thoughtful reward. I like his model (which is characterised by the repetition of stylized designs in bright, lively colors and outlined in black).”
Suggestions of the trade
“Don’t be concerned of points that you feel don’t go together,” the designer states. “Mix pictures in with the abstract. Blend prints, canvases, and distinctive varieties of frames.”
Favorite items
A lucky-13 black-cat piece (1) and an “Enter” indicator (2), each by her brother, Jordan Kabalka, who now lives in Alabama. “I am drawn to dark, creepy illustrations, so these are very considerably up my alley.”

A wallpaper sample from Maharam shows an eyeball sample (3). Founded in 1902, Maharam is a primary creator of textiles for professional and household interiors.
