Gap Inc., Harlem’s Fashion Row Award UAPB $20,000 Grant for Fashion Education

Students in the College of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s Merchandising, Textiles and Design (MTD) Program have made wonderful strides in their schooling many thanks to a $20,000 grant from Gap Inc. and Harlem’s Fashion Row, Dr. Jane Opiri, assistant professor for the MTD Program, said. The award was element of the once-a-year “Closing the Gap” initiative, which has awarded additional than $500,000 to fashion programs at nine traditionally Black schools and universities.

“This grant has been a game-changer for our application,” Dr. Opiri said. “It has helped fund scholarships for a few students, provided resources to get instructional materials this sort of as materials, textile kits, sewing and finishing instruments for lab classes and has afforded a subscription for Adobe items for faculty to support in teaching.”

Yunru Shen, instructor for the MTD system, reported the grant authorized her to obtain textile swatch kits, which assisted provide the research of textiles alive for her college students.
