We may only be one month into 2022, but it’s not too soon to try out a fresh trend or two.

And when it comes to singling out the styles that’ll soon be everywhere, it helps to consult the pros.

That’s why we asked celebrity stylist Jan-Michael Quammie and designers Duckie Confetti, Elle B. Mambetov and Davon Bean to weigh in on the looks they predict will be big news this year.

Keep reading to discover the trends they’re eyeing — and to shop each one, if you’re so inclined.

After all, as Confetti told us, “Fashion should be fun! Do not feel confined to rules, and always wear [your style] with confidence.”

Everyday luxury

It’s finally time to start dressing up again — and as Cardi B proved when she took her newborn son for a stroll in head-to-toe Dior, you don’t need a special occasion to do so.

“Couture is starting to feel more approachable and wearable,” said Quammie, who styles “Matrix Resurrections” actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

The same goes for red carpet looks, with Elle B. Zhou designer Mambetov pointing to the relatively simple and streamlined styles Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin wore to the 2021 Met Gala as proof. Their all-black outfits (by Drew House and Saint Laurent, respectively) were all fashion, no frills.

Faux fur

Speaking of redefined luxury, Confetti — whose designs have been worn by Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige and Mariah Carey, to name but a few — believes the faux fur will fly in 2022.

“Faux fur has improved immensely over the years and many brands are using it more casually on their garments,” he said.

Shop the trend:

Eaves Knox Jacket ($428)

Nordstrom Faux Fur Capelet ($98)

Sam Edelman Faux Fur Hat ($38)

Not quite ready to give up your comfy clothes? Fear not: Fly Geenius designer Bean (a favorite of stars like Teyana Taylor and A$AP Rocky) believes “stylish prints, looser fits and baggy everything” will be big this year, too.

Rather than resembling the leggings and pullovers we all lived in last year, however, 2022’s take on the trend focuses on denim and oversized jackets and puffers “with an emphasis on gender neutrality,” according to the designer.

Shop the trend:

Forever 21 Oversized Denim Jacket ($31.49)

Everlane The A-Line Denim Short ($60)

H&M Oversized Printed T-Shirt ($17.99)

Leather

This celebrity-loved look isn’t going anywhere.

“Whether it is real or fake, leather will always roll over from season to season,” Confetti said. “It’s so versatile, and it’s a great staple item to complete a look. It’s rich and timeless.”

Shop the trend:

Commando Faux Patent Leather Legging ($118)

Universal Standard Leeron Leather Moto Jacket ($498)

Lamarque Corey Mini Dress ($445)

Cardigans

Thank Taylor Swift for this one, perhaps.

“Cardigans are a must-have for spring and summer,” Confetti said, adding that the classic button-front sweater “adds great personality to your look.”

Shop the trend:

Hollister Easy V-Neck Crop Cardigan ($44.95)

Windsor Stylishly Cozy Cable Knit Cardigan ($38.90)

Madewell (Re)sourced Fleece Crop Cardigan ($69.99)

Green

Softer shades of sage were all the rage last year; now, consider adding hunter, olive or electric green to your closet instead. Both Confetti and Bean expect us all to be seeing green in 2022.

Shop the trend:

Found My Style Lime Green Satin Bustier Mini Dress ($64)

Champion Powerblend Fleece Hoodie ($34)

Nike Air Force 1 Fontanka Sneakers ($110)

Lilac

On the other hand, Mambetov and Quammie are leaning towards softer shades and colors for 2022.

“I really love lilac and lavender,” said Mambetov, who also serves as an international buyer for Farfetch and has been seeing the pretty hues pop up during her appointments.

Shop the trend:

Topshop Sweetheart Neckline Fluffy Sweater ($25.35)

Lululemon Scuba High-Rise French Terry Jogger ($89)

Icing Hair Scrunchi ($2.99)
