Building out your fall shopping list? You’ll want to start with shoes. The best fall 2022 shoe trends are now trickling into stores, which means you can finally shop the designs you’ve been eyeing since they first appeared on the runways. “Sky-high platforms continued their ascent as a key trend for fall/winter 2022 across pumps, boots, and sandals—we anticipate these will be a mainstay for seasons to come,” says Libby Page, senior market editor at Net-a-Porter.
But, it’s not only about adding height. Other bold trends include embellished party shoes and cozy shearling designs. And for those who prefer a sleeker look, take cues from Gia Marchesano, buyer of women’s shoes at Bergdorf Goodman. “Feminine touches including Mary Janes, single sole loafers, over-the-knee boots, and pops of patent felt fresh and exciting,” she tells us.
As temperatures continue to cool over the next few months, you’ll likely transition toward the more substantial trends from the fall/winter 2022 runways. But, don’t feel obligated to invest in a whole new wardrobe: With the addition of a new pair of boots, your jeans, sweaters, and leather jacket will all take on a fresh aesthetic. For example, “you can easily transition from summer to fall with a statement shearling slide,” suggests Caroline Maguire, fashion director at Shopbop. “Then, move into the snowy winter months with a staple, and incredibly reliable, shearling boot.”
Ahead, find more insight into the six fall 2022 shoe trends these experts recommend wearing from now until early 2023.
