Today it was announced that beauty and fashion photographer Theodore Samuels is hosting his first solo exhibit, titled ‘The Games We Play’ – taking place on November 28th, 2022 till December 1st 2022 at The Major Owens Community Center in Brooklyn, New York. Known for illuminating natural beauty through daring sensual portraits, Theodore hopes to take visitors on a journey from Jamaica to Vermont, Italy to Honduras, finding connective communities in and around play.
Themed as a reflection of roads less traveled and the human need for art and play, “‘The Games We Play’ was created in abundance, which I have experienced in my life”, said Theodore. “We are a strange grouping of people on this planet. I find that the only thing that separates us can be simplified into one word: culture. And culture is defined by the way we use the word “art”. The way we use the same tools, yet slightly differently, the way we see the same material yet understand it with our unique eye.”
As an epicenter for play, movement, and discovery, The Major Owens Community Center is the exhibit’s host. Director of Communication at BFC Partners stated, “We’re excited to present our first photography exhibition featuring the work of Theo Samuels, a resident of Crown Heights and a member of our cultural center. Mr. Samuels’ photography awakens the senses, exhibiting an array of warm colors and thought provoking emotions. His Jamaican I and II series displays realism to a level that is undeniably recognizable by our surrounding Caribbean residents. After opening a year ago, the Major Owens Center has produced concerts, staged readings and dance performances. It was only a matter of time before we engaged in visual arts!”
The exhibit is open to the general public from November 28th to December 1st (10am to 9pm on all days except December 1st, which is open from 10am to 3:30pm), located at Major Owens Community Center (1561 Bedford Ave Brooklyn, NY 11225). The VIP show and opening party is scheduled for November 29th at 6:30pm with RSVP.

About Theodore Samuels
Theodore Samuels is a Jamaican born commercial and fashion photographer specializing in beauty. Theodore combines the classical language of photography with a rich bold aesthetic, placing the photographs somewhere in between the present and the past, an infinite moment of now.
After finding his father’s dusty camera in a storage box, he began shooting in high school at St. Johnsbury Academy in Vermont. The very moment he bought his own camera, he knew that he had found something special. He discovered a deeper love of photography while studying fine arts photography at Radford University. Following university, he attended the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale majoring in fashion photography. Samuels moved to New York, where he currently resides and travels often bring back interesting stories and inspiration.
